Friends,

On behalf of Brad Johnson, Tony Cawthon, and myself, we invite you to consider submitting a manuscript proposal for the Special Issue Manuscript: LGBTQ+ Student Experience in Campus Housing that we are co-editing.

Please find the official call from ACUHO-I below; you can also find more information at this link.

We look forward to hopefully hearing from you soon and reviewing your proposals.

Special Issue Manuscripts: LGBTQ+ Student Experience

Manuscripts in this special issue will explore topics related to the experience of LGBTQ+ students in campus housing. We welcome manuscripts from a broad range of perspectives, but the focus should remain on the residential setting.

Topics for this special issue might include:
  • Role of a residential curriculum in creating inclusive communities
  • Understanding the subtle harms (i.e. microaggressions) faced by LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Examining Gender Neutral/Inclusive Housing practices and policies
  • Recruiting and supporting LGBTQ+ staff
  • Preparing student affairs professionals to support LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Considerations for LGBTQ+ inclusion as it relates to renovation and/or construction
  • Creating safe spaces in the residential experience for LGBTQ+ students
  • Navigating intersecting identities (i.e. LGBTQ+, POC, and Religious identities)
  • Best practices for supporting and advocating with trans and queer spectrum individuals

Learn more online. For consideration in this special issue, an initial one-page abstract must be submitted electronically by April 19, 2019. Notification of selection will be made by April 22 and the first draft of the full manuscripts will be due June 10. Selected manuscripts will be featured in a digitally published issue of the Journal in 2020.
