The Swearer Center is a community of scholars, students, practitioners, and community members that works together to build on community strengths and address community challenges. Our work engages all as co-learners, co-teachers, co-actors, and co-creators of knowledge and action. Through the creative capacities of our students, faculty, and community partners we explore, build and implement collaborative and strategic projects, programs and initiatives.

In line with our mission, the Swearer Center is hiring four Program Managers for key aspects of our work:

1. Faculty Engagement and Research

2. Academic Engagement

3. Community Partnership

4. Student Development



Program Managers will develop and manage strategies and systems related to their portfolio that integrate their activities with broader Center and University strategy and initiatives. Program Managers will provide focused management to a defined portfolio of programs, initiatives, and stakeholders (students, faculty, and/or community partners), and will be responsible for program development and management which includes:

- planning and implementing meetings, workshops, events, and other programming;

- managing processes and programs, program evaluation, documentation, and data tracking;

- managing approved program expenses;

- representing programs and the Center at student-, faculty-, and community-facing events and conferences;

- working with the Communications team to contribute to enhanced content for the Center’s communications (website, newsletters, and publications);

- advising, mentoring, and/or supervising undergraduate students and post-graduate fellows in groups and individual settings;

- developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with key internal and external stakeholders required to cultivate and sustain programmatic and strategic partnerships of the Swearer Center;

- coordinating closely with other Swearer Center teams (including Communications and Operations teams).



Available positions include:

The Program Manager for Faculty Engagement and Research will be responsible for the management and coordination of multiple programs and relationships related to engaged teaching, engaged research, and community innovation. This Program Manager will support the effective implementation of professional development activities (e.g., faculty learning communities), student programs led by faculty fellows (e.g., Royce Fellows, Storytellers), and a new community innovation design team. The ideal candidate would have significant experience and understanding of engaged scholarship, social innovation, and/or the higher education context.



The Program Manager for Academic Engagement will provide focused management of Swearer Center academic engagement, curriculum development, and community-engaged scholarship initiatives that enable undergraduate students to integrate their academic coursework with community-based learning and research experience. The position is responsible for a defined portfolio of academic engagement programs, which could include for example: Brown in Washington, Brown in Tulsa, Providence-Jerusalem Exchange, and/or other new programs as developed. The ideal candidate would have experience with curriculum development and international educational programs, and be willing to occasionally travel domestically and internationally for program support and assessment.



The Program Manager for Community Partnership will have responsibility for the management, coordination, and development of programs within the Swearer Center’s community engagement ecosystem that enable community-based partner organizations to access and leverage resources of the institution to advance their organization’s mission and work. These programs may include but are not limited to Off-Campus Federal Work-Study, the Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellows Program and the Engaged Scholars Program. The program manager will (pro-)actively cultivate and manage partnerships with organizations and agencies across multiple issues areas including education, health, economic justice and the environment. The ideal candidate has experience with program/project management, higher education/community partnership, partnership cultivation and management.



The Program Manager for Student Development provides focused management of Swearer Center Student Development programs, co-curricular initiatives, and other campus initiatives related to community engagement. The position is responsible for a defined portfolio of programs and cohorts of students, which could include for example: Bonner Fellows, Peer Advisors, Community Corps, and/or other new programs as developed. The ideal candidate would have the ability to engage, collaborate with, support, advise and educate undergraduate students, as well as to integrate community engagement experiences with the goals of a Brown undergraduate education.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Strong skills in program/project management, program structure and process, documentation and assessment.

· Collaborative work style, strong team player, with an emphasis on inclusiveness and flexibility; ability to build collaborations with diverse communities.

· Track record of execution and change orientation: open-mindedness; focus on learning, assessment, constant improvement, and accountability; attention to detail.

· Interest in and ability to engage, collaborate with, support, and educate undergraduate students; understanding of and ability to articulate the integration of community engagement and the goals of Brown undergraduate education.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.

· Ability to generate enthusiasm among students and practitioners in the field.

· Ability to work evening and weekend events/programs, including some holidays.



Please note: Program Managers are full-time exempt, one-year fixed-term positions with the possibility of extension based on funding.
