The Director of Athletics is a highly visible position that is integral in providing extraordinary value to the mission of the athletics department and overall strategic vision of the University. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and as a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference, which is presidentially run, the Athletic Director is also a member of the President’s Leadership Team.

This position is broad in scope and one that provides forward-thinking leadership, strategic direction and administrative leadership to build and sustain a comprehensive and competitive athletics program that instills excellence while advancing the University’s educational mission and strategic priorities, and the student-athlete philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics.

This is an exciting time for the next Athletic Director. Guided by the University’s new Strategic Plan, the Athletic Director will be responsible for our growing intercollegiate athletics program fielding 24 athletic programs which compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division III, IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association), the IDA (Intercollegiate Dressage Association) and NACE (National Association of College ESports). Student-athletes represent 35% of the student body at Delaware Valley University.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and executes the athletics action plan
Ensure compliance with all NCAA and conference regulations, university policies and Title IX
Actively participate in governance, planning and institutional expectations for membership in the Middle Atlantic Conference
Collaborate with the Dean of Students regarding student development, conduct, and behavioral and support interventions
Promote an environment of comradery and academic and competitive excellence within the department, programs and among student-athletes
Develops a diverse and inclusive environment of employees who are committed to university mission and core values, and student, team and department success and excellence.
Partner with Director of Health and Wellness and Athletic Training staff to ensure coordinated quality healthcare for student-athletes. Supervise athletic training in administrative role
Ensure effective management systems are in place for all aspects of the department
Provide and support student leadership initiatives internally and through partnerships with divisional colleagues
Work along with the Vice President for Enrollment Management to direct student-athlete recruitment efforts. Assist and develop coaching staff with strategies for meeting and attaining measurable recruitment goals for team rosters
Collaborate with Development and Alumni Affairs to build an effective strategy to increase community visibility and support; including fiscal support

Education and Experience
Master’s degree in an applicable field of study required; bachelor’s degree with significant and relevant experience may be considered
Five years of progressively responsible experience with college/university athletics administration
Coaching experience preferred but not required
Evidence of knowledge, abilities and skills articulated above

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the educational role of intercollegiate athletics administration within a Division III environment
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of full and part-time staff toward shared goals and effective operations
Ability to identify and cultivate staff talent to develop their skills and abilities
Keen understanding of and experience with recruiting and enrollment at a small private institution
Successful development and management of budgets and fiscal planning
Demonstrated successful participation in fundraising and alumni engagement efforts in support of strategic and operating objectives
Ability to use data and information effectively for planning, reporting and decision-making
Understanding of organizational dynamics and ability to create a culture of excellence, integrity and achievement for our programs, our student-athletes and our employees.
