Position Summary:
The Assistant General Counsel will utilize his/her legal skills to accomplish legal assignments within the Office of General Counsel. Under the direction of the General Counsel, this position within the Office of General Counsel provides and assists in the delivery of legal counsel to LSC stakeholders. The incumbent performs standard legal work and participates in the performance of complex legal work to include such areas as research, policy review, legal compliance issues, contract reviews, employment affairs, legal advice, and other legal services pertaining to an institution of higher education.


Job Functions:
1. Draft initial reports, recommendations, legal opinions, research memorandum, and other work product for higher-level legal review
2. Draft initial responses to requests for information, production, and evidence
3. Draft initial correspondence to external and internal stakeholders
4. Review and monitor state and federal legislation affecting the college to provide independent updates to stakeholders within LSC
5. Create and provide training materials on legal and policy issues for LSC
6. Draft and review contracts, negotiate contract language, and approve college contracts under the supervision of supervising attorneys
7. Provide low-level, day-to-day legal advice to stakeholders within the LSC
8. Perform legal research and investigations as directed by the General Counsel or his/her designate
9. Provide routine updates regarding pending legal matters to the General Counsel or his/her designate
10. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Salary:
$ 85,960

Required:
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited American law school
• Must have a current license to practice in Texas in good standing
