Position Description
Coordination and management of students, staff and programs within a residence hall/complex. Supervises subordinate staff, student employees and volunteers.
Major/Essential Functions

The RLC- SJE provides social justice training, education and programming for University Student Housing (USH). USH, as well as Texas Tech University, place a high priority on diversity and social justice education, and fostering bias free living and working environments. This staff position would directly supervise the Social Justice Advocates, a student position.
The RLC-SJE is a vital member of the residence hall community and the University Student Housing Staff, and is expected to work with the Senior Managing Associate Director, the Assistant Directors and Mangers within Residence Life, and other departmental staff in the development and implementation of management and learning outcomes for University Student Housing. Collaboration throughout the Department and campus community is vital to the success of this position.
Supervision
Provide guidance and direct supervision responsibility for the Social Justice Advocates
Social Justice Education
Lead USH in areas of social justice, privilege, and diversity education as it relates to the mission and strategic goals of the department.
Work closely with USH leadership to plan ways to ensure the development of an inclusionary living environment.
Provide programmatic support to residential areas through creation, implementation, and evaluation of an inclusive programming and education plan around issues of social justice, privilege and diversity.
Departmental Liaison
Serve as the liaison between USH and other campus departments such as Campus Life, Student Government Association, Tech Activities Board and the Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center regarding social justice and diversity initiatives.
Training and Development
Train Professional and Student staff in residence life on social justice topics and in creating inclusive living environments.
Create and facilitate annual Hunger Banquet and Tunnel of Oppression.
Create, coordinate and facilitate training to foster awareness through programs such as Safe Zone, Facilitator training, etc.
Academic Support
Promote student learning throughout the Residence Life program.
Be knowledgeable in general education requirements and resources for specific college/department advising questions; advise students on an as-needed basis.
Assessment
Research best practices in social justice initiatives and use findings to inform best practices and programs.
Develop unique programs and communication strategies to promote diversity, and assess outcomes of those initiatives with a focus on recruitment and retention.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain and approve staff payroll, as needed.
Participate in departmental selection processes for professional and paraprofessional staff.
Distribute information to university partners, residence life staff, and student leaders.
Maintain office hours (8am-5pm) for walk-in appointments and scheduled meetings, with some flexibility regarding nighttime commitments.
Maintain financial records and monitor budget for assigned area.
Respond to parent/faculty concerns; refer issues to appropriate personnel.
On-call Responsibilities
Work with the campus and community partners during crisis and emergency situations.
Exercise sound judgment and ethics to handle situations appropriately.
Serve in RLC on-call rotation with other RLCs.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree required in a related field plus two years related residence hall staff experience; OR a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.
