Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Mental Health Staff Psychologist/ Counselor. The Mental Health Professional (Staff Psychologist or College Mental Health Counselor) is expected to support Kenyon College students by providing direct counseling services to individuals and therapy groups, consulting with faculty/ staff, and promoting health and wellness through Student Affairs or Cox Center outreach programming. All professional activities will align with Cox Center mission: Providing compassionate care and empowering students to best manage their own health (in preparation for life after Kenyon). Reports administratively and clinically to the Associate Director of Counseling; support provided by the Director of Health & Counseling as needed. This position is a full-time, 10-month position (August through May).
Essential Functions
Maintains current licensure, and upholds ethical standards as defined by the Ohio Board of Psychology or the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, and Kenyon College Staff Handbook Standards of Conduct.
Conducts mental health assessments, substance use disorders assessments, and individual counseling with students seeking help for psychological, social, emotional, developmental, academic or personal concerns.
Maintains case records as required by professional standards and applicable statutes.
Provides crisis intervention services and participates in the counselor on-call rotation.
Offers counseling therapy group services.
Collaborates with the Health Services staff, as needed, for student care.
Consults with faculty, staff and students on general mental health concerns, including speaking with classes and student groups.
Provides advice and consultation to College faculty and staff on individual student matters (after students complete the required release of information).
Communicates with off-campus mental health professionals to coordinate specialized care or address continuing needs and provide documentation (after completing the required release of information).
Attends meetings as assigned by the Cox Center leadership.
Preferred Qualifications for Staff Psychologist
Experience working with college-aged students (domestic and international).
Experience with solution-focused therapy.
Experience providing substance use disorder (SUD) counseling support.
Diverse array of clinical and professional experiences and skills with a focus on addressing needs of underrepresented populations.
Minimum Qualifications for Staff Psychologist
Minimum requirement is a doctoral degree in Psychology with two or more years of clinical experience. The staff psychologist is expected to have a currently valid independent professional license. An appreciation of college student needs, experience with SUD counseling support, demonstrated cultural competency, and sensitivity and experience with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations are also integral aspects of the position. Ability to work as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications for College Mental Health Counselor
Preferred independent licensure.
LISW-S or LPCC-S: Supervision Credential.
Experience providing substance use (SUD) counseling support: LICDC preferred but not required.
Experience working with college-aged students (domestic and international).
Experience with solution-focused therapy.
Diverse array of clinical and professional experiences and skills with a focus on addressing needs of underrepresented populations.
Minimum Qualifications for College Mental Health Counselor
Minimum requirement is a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Social Work or a closely related discipline with two or more years of experience as a counselor. Independent licensure and/or doctoral level education preferred. Counselors are expected to be certified/licensed as independent practitioners in their professional specialty within two years of employment at Kenyon College. An appreciation of college student needs, experience with SUD counseling support, demonstrated cultural competency, and sensitivity and experience with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations are also integral aspects of the position. Ability to work as a member of a team.
