Position Summary
Provides leadership and oversight of all programs, activities, policies, personnel, budgets and special projects of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center; supports LGBTQQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual) students and, more broadly, people with marginalized (a)genders and (a)sexualities at the intersection of multiple identities; collaborates with other identity-based offices to advocate for equity in educational spaces at the intersections of multiple minoritized identities; ensures an efficient and effective program to provide services for LGBTQIA students, staff, and faculty while educating the campus about LGBTQIA concerns. This position is a joint report and has responsibilities both within the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED).

Environment
The University of Utah is located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in the state capital of Salt Lake City, Utah. Salt Lake and the surrounding Wasatch Front area is home to approximately 80% of the state’s 2 million residents. The University houses over 100 departments in 17 Colleges. Our 32,000 students are enrolled from all 29 Utah counties, all 50 states, and 102 foreign countries. The “U” has been ranked as a top 25 LGBT-friendly school by the Huffington Post and Affordable Colleges Online. The Advocate named Salt Lake City as #8 in its list of Queerest Cities in America.

Responsibilities
1. Provides supervision for current staff consisting of a program coordinator, executive secretary, graduate assistant, two student staff, and student interns.

2. Manages budget of approximately $260,000.

3. Develops and implements programming, educational training, and professional development workshops on LGBTQIA issues (and additional marginalized identities) for both students and University staff and faculty, including those in Health Sciences.

4. Advocates for LGBTQIA students, staff, and faculty by working to create a positive campus environment and address barriers within campus culture in an effort to create an environment in which all (a)genders and (a)sexualities can thrive.

5. Builds and fosters collaborative relationships with community organizations and develops new outreach to LGBTQIA prospective students in high schools, other colleges and community programs.

6. Works with students in an advisory or mentoring capacity concerning educational and personal matters, making referrals to appropriate campus and community agencies as needed.

7. Promotes relationships with new and existing funding sources by participating in fund­ raising, overseeing grant writing and grant seeking, and serving as principal investigator on grants to secure additional funding.

8. Evaluates, monitors and influences the University’s policies and procedures on issues affecting LGBTQIA populations at the intersection of multiple minoritized identities and assists this population in advocating for itself.

9. Works with University Marketing and Communication to highlight the LGBT Resource Center and services within the community.

10. Provides information on LGBTQIA identities (including the intersection of multiple minoritized identities) to the University community and makes available current written materials and resources relating to them.

11. Represents the University as a consultant, advocate, and resource on matters related to LGBTQIA issues

12. Develops and maintains professional and cooperative relationships and activities with University students, faculty, staff, and alumni in various student services, and academic and administrative departments.

13. Implements the mission statements of OED and Student Affairs within the work of the LGBT RC.

Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Psychology or a related field plus four years of full-time administrative experience that includes supervision of staff, budget development, administration and personnel management. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated awareness and knowledge of and commitment to working with LGBTQIA issues from a critical and intersectional lens. Must have a commitment to and experience with intentional and strategic diversity work including, but not limited to, age, race, ethnicity, class, culture, sexuality, gender identity, gender expression and religious/spiritual identity. Advanced interpersonal skills are required in addition to outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Experience working in a higher education setting and with grant writing and/or fund-raising.
