Position Title: Director, LGBTQ+ Culture Center

Department Information:
The LGBTQ+ Culture Center is a department within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA) in Indiana University

Job Summary:
The director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus Culture Center (LGBTQ+ Culture Center) reports to the Assistant Vice President for Strategy, Planning, and Assessment (AVPSPA), within the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs (OVPDEMA). Duties and responsibilities are to develop and provide educational support, referrals, mentorship, guidance and resource services related to issues of sexual orientation and gender identity for Bloomington campus students. Provide additional support and advice to faculty, staff, University administration, and others regarding issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Encourage a safe environment on campus and in the surrounding community for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students by working closely with campus police and the campus judicial system and work in concert with the other campus entities to respond to reporting of discrimination and harassment on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Gender Studies or comparable degree.

Minimum Experience:
Four years’ work experience in higher education with service and programming implementation and delivery and collaboration with community and community-based agencies. Additionally must possess a minimum of one year experience supervising staff.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• LGBTQ+ cultural competency, knowledge of student development theories, and exposure to current political events as well as strong and demonstrable ties to contemporary LGBTQ+ communities and national, social, cultural and educational initiatives
• Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills with sound judgment and decision making skills
• Exceptionally strong managerial, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Excellent planning, organizing and writing skills
• Able to analyze and problem solve a variety of situations, issues, and concerns whether staff, student, faculty, representative, community, or other
• Able to maintain confidentiality on as need to know basis
• Able to work collaboratively and build rapport and lasting partnerships with internal and external constituencies
• Able to provide mentorship and guidance
• Ability to manage overall operations inclusive of facility management, supervise, train, develop staff, and evaluate work performance and program outcomes
• Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, program assessment, and grant writing
• Practical application and experience with databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that is insurable by Indiana University
• Availability for evening and weekend events and for travel within and across university campuses as well as within the state of Indiana and across the states

Equipment utilized:
Computer, FAX, phone, cellular device, printer, scanning/imaging, copier.

Physical Requirements:
Position predominately requires seeing, hearing, talking, listening, fingering, and walking. Sitting for long periods of time could exist, standing, reaching and grasping as well as lifting up to twenty pounds frequently. There are frequent close vision activities requiring reading, reviewing, and recording of data with daily computer use. There are frequent occasions of face to face, group, phone and video communications among students, staff, faculty, representatives, agents, parents, community leaders, and others. Mental concentration is required for financial data analysis, trending, statistical reporting, and decision making. Multi-tasking and general daily problem solving are inherent with daily planning, organizing, implementing programs and events, and collaborating with others. Problem solving situations can induce stress. Availability for weekend and extended hours of work and inter and intra campus travel, as well as travel within the state of Indiana and other states is required.

Salary Range: $46,000 - $56,000
FLSA: Exempt
Position Status: Full-time (75 percent FTE and above) Appointed
