Subject :Seeking LGBTQIA+ ally development training facilitators for study participation

Greetings!
I hope this message finds you well. I am a trans-identified and queer faculty member and researcher in higher education conducting a study on the experiences of those who facilitate LGBTQIA+ ally development trainings (e.g., Safe Space, Safe Zone). I am seeking to elevate diverse stories and voices in describing the experiences of those who facilitate these trainings from all areas of campus, whether an official or unofficial position responsibility.
Many higher education institutions in the United States have something called a safe zone, safe space, or ally development training or program that helps allies learn about how to support those with LGBTQIA+ identities. These trainings, largely understood as educational interventions, work to lessen heterosexism and trans* oppression on campus. The significance of this research is to examine an overlooked person within the larger educational intervention dynamic: the facilitators. I am interested in learning: what it is like to be someone who facilitates workshops/trainings about/for ally development, safe zone, or safe space? What are your experiences as facilitators, and potentially content creators for these interventions? How does facilitating these trainings impact your self-perception, notions of allyship, and perceptions of campus? Participation in this research involves a 60-90 minute interview that will be audio recorded. Basic participant eligibility is someone who currently facilitates campus-based (higher education) ally development training, whether a part of a campus office, collateral assignment to current position, or as a volunteer or committee member.
It is important to me that I have all kinds of facilitator voices, across all areas of possible campus life (such as, but not limited to, faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduate students, for whom this is a written component of their position, or for whom this is a volunteer or service component of your work). It is also important to me to ensure that I have a diverse participant pool across race, sexuality, gender, ability, faith, and socioeconomic status. Additionally, I hope to have participants from different institutional types and particularly encourage those from two-year, minority-serving, faith-based, and/or single-sex-designated institutions to participate.
If you would like to learn more and potentially participate in the study, check out this link: https://forms.gle/ZHTmScb4rzSKGYnZ7. Here you will find more information about the study and me as a researcher, including an informed consent form, contact information for the Virginia Tech Institutional Review Board (IRB, IRB# 19_1172), and an opportunity to indicate your interest.
I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Chase Catalano
