he Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS), housed in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, invites applicants for the position of Associate Lecturer, full-time, to begin in August 2020. We are seeking applicants with expertise and ability to teach in sexuality studies and queer studies. The Dept. supports and values diversity in its faculty, staff, and students. We seek a colleague who shares the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and who will be a dedicated teacher and effective mentor for students with diverse backgrounds, preparation, and career goals. Teaching responsibility will include teaching undergraduate courses in WGSS for the Women’s Studies major and minor, the Social Justice Minor, drawing on the candidate’s area of specialization, as well as within the General Education Program. We actively seek applicants from backgrounds that are under-represented in higher education.

The WGSS Department is anchored by three tenure-track faculty and the program director for UWL’s Self Sufficiency Program. Affiliated faculty from across campus also teach in our program. We offer majors and minors in Women’s Studies and house the Social Justice Minor program. Our mission is to empower students “to think critically about gender and sexuality, challenge social inequality, and become ethical problem solvers, preparing them for careers, engaged citizenship, and advanced degrees.” We place a high value on service, especially social justice work, on campus and in the community.

This week I was asked to teach the Intro to LGBTQ+ Studies for fall. No one has taught it for 4 years. They asked me what books/texts I would like. I am just wondering if anyone is currently teaching and has a suggestion for books or texts I should ask for?

Thank you!

Will
