Overview:

Kenyon College is conducting a search for qualified candidates to fill two College Mental Health Counselor (also known as College Counselor) positions. These positions are full-time, 10 month, with benefits. The College Counselor is expected to support Kenyon College students by providing direct professional counseling services to individuals and therapy groups, consulting with faculty/ staff, and promoting health and wellness through Student Affairs or Cox Center outreach programming. All professional activities will align with Cox Center mission: Providing compassionate care and empowering students to best manage their own health (in preparation for life after Kenyon).

Responsibilities:

Maintain current certification or licensure, and uphold ethical standards as defined by the Ohio Board of Counselors, Social Workers, & Marriage Family Therapists and Kenyon College Staff Handbook Standards of Conduct.

Conduct mental health assessments and individual counseling with students seeking help for psychological, social, emotional, developmental, academic or personal concerns.

Maintain case records as required by professional standards and applicable statutes.

Provide crisis intervention services and participates in the counselor on-call rotation.

Offer counseling therapy group services.

Collaborate with the Health Services staff, as needed, for student care.

Consult with faculty, staff and students on general mental health concerns, including speaking with classes and student groups.

Provide advice and consultation to College faculty and staff on individual student matters (after student completes the required release of information).

Communicate with off-campus mental health professionals to coordinate specialized care or continuing needs and provide documentation (after completing the required release of information).

Attend meetings as assigned by the Cox Center leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum requirement is a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Social Work or a closely related discipline with two or more years of experience as a counselor. Independent licensure preferred. Counselors are expected to be certified/licensed as independent practitioners in their professional specialty within two years of employment at Kenyon College. An appreciation of college student needs, demonstrated cultural competency, and sensitivity and experience with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations are also integral aspects of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current independent professional licensure; experience working with college-aged students (domestic and international); experience with brief solution focused therapy; diverse array of clinical and professional experiences and skills; and ability to work as a member of a team.
