MembershipThere are four types of membership in the Consortium: two membership types for organizations and two membership types for individuals. Individual and Institutional memberships are appropriate for institutions of post-secondary education and individuals affiliated with them, including staff, faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Affiliate and Affiliated Organization memberships are appropriate for individuals and organizations interested in the work of the Consortium but not directly involved with post-secondary education. Some current Affiliated Organizations include the Human Rights Campaign, the American Dental Education Association, national fraternal organizations, and more. Many of our current Affiliate members are consultants, external educators, and former higher education administrators who now work in other fields. Organization memberships (Institutional and Affiliated Organization) provide specific, unique benefits and privileges for the member institution/organization, as well as provide a number of Linked memberships for individuals within the institution/organization. Individuals whose membership is through a Linked membership will only be considered active members if they continue to be employed by or supported by the organization holding the organizational membership. Individual memberships (Practitioner and Affiliate) provide non-transferable membership status to the individual membership holder, regardless of affiliate, employment, etc. with another organization (even if an organization pays the dues on behalf of the individual).
*Additional linked memberships may be purchased at cost. ** Community Colleges and Minority-Serving Institutions - please contact the Consortium at [email protected] before completing the membership registration in order to access this price point. Membership DescriptionsInstitutional MembershipAn Institutional Membership for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals is the appropriate membership for any institutions of post-secondary education, including universities, colleges, community colleges, and graduate and professional schools. An Institutional Membership provides membership to the Consortium for the institution itself; it also includes a set number of memberships to individuals within the institution in the form of Institutional Linked Members. The number of linked members depends on the tier of Institutional Membership. Members who hold Institutional Linked Member status hold all rights and responsibilities outlined for members of the Consortium. Institutional Linked Member status and Practitioner Member status are equivalent memberships; Institutional Linked Members are simply linked to an Institutional Membership. Unique benefits reserved specifically for Institutional Membership holders are:
An institution may hold only one Institutional Membership for its campus. The Key Contact, as listed in MemberClicks, shall be the representative of the Institutional Membership. The Key Contact determines who shall receive membership through the Institutional Membership (who will occupy the Institutional Linked Memberships). If an individual holding an Institutional Linked Membership leaves the institution, the individual will no longer be a member of the Consortium (unless they join as an individual or are linked to another Institutional Membership). The individual’s Linked Membership will be available for the Key Contact to assign to another individual. If the Key Contact leaves the institution, they should transfer the duties of the Key Contact role to another Institutional Linked Member prior to departure. To transfer these duties, the Key Contact should email the Organizational Operations Collective ([email protected]) requesting the re-delegation of these duties, and should include the contact information of the new Key Contact. Community Colleges and Minority-Serving Institutions - please contact the Consortium at [email protected] before completing the membership registration in order to access the discounted membership price. Any institution that 1) is an institution of post-secondary education, and 2) does not already hold an Institutional Membership, may request to join the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. The Executive Board and/or CAST may choose to deny or revoke membership if the institution does not fit the requirements for the membership or does not abide by the Consortium Community Commitments and Guidelines. The Executive Board and/or CAST may also revoke Institutional Linked Memberships if the individual(s) holding the member(s) are found in violation of the Community Commitments and Guidelines. Practitioner MembershipA Practitioner Membership for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals is the appropriate membership for any individual who is affiliated with post-secondary education in some form or capacity who is not actively receiving membership through an Institutional Linked Membership. Practitioner Membership dues are a flat rate paid annually, and the membership is tied to the membership holder (versus an Institutional Linked Member, which is linked to the Institutional membership). Affiliation with post-secondary education is broadly defined and includes individuals currently employed in staff and faculty roles across institutions, regardless of functional area, as well as retired staff and faculty. It also includes individuals working with post-secondary institutions or students within other types of organizations. Practitioner Memberships may be purchased by institutions on behalf of members. Members who hold Practitioner Membership status hold all rights and responsibilities outlined for members of the Consortium. Any individual that 1) is affiliated with post-secondary education, and 2) does not already hold membership through another membership type, may request to join the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals as an Practitioner Membership holder. The Executive Board and/or CAST may choose to deny or revoke membership if the individual does not fit the requirements for the membership or does not abide by the Consortium Community Commitments and Guidelines. Affiliate MembershipAn Affiliate Membership for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals is the appropriate membership for any individual who is not currently affiliated with post-secondary education but is interested in the work of the Consortium. Affiliate Membership dues are a flat rate paid annually, and the membership is tied to the membership holder. Members who hold Affiliate Membership status hold limited rights and responsibilities within the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. Members who hold Affiliate Membership status may not vote in Consortium elections or hold elected office within the organization. Members who hold Affiliate Membership status may not be able to access all programming offered by the Consortium (with access generally determined on a program-by-program basis). Any individual that 1) is not affiliated with post-secondary education, OR, 2) is affiliated with post-secondary education but not interested in the rights and responsibilities afforded to individuals holding an Individual Membership, may request to join the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals as an Affiliate Membership holder. The Executive Board and/or CAST may choose to deny or revoke membership if the individual does not fit the requirements for the membership or does not abide by the Consortium Community Commitments and Guidelines. Affiliated Organization MembershipAn Affiliated Organization Membership for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals is the appropriate membership for organizations such as non-profits, special interest, professional, and others who are interested in the work of the Consortium. An Affiliated Organization Membership provides affiliate membership to the Consortium for the organization itself; it also includes a set number of memberships to individuals within the organization in the form of Affiliate Linked Members. The number of linked members depends on the tier of Affiliated Organization Membership. Members who hold Affiliated Organization Memberships hold the same rights and responsibilities as those outlined above for Affiliate Members. Unique benefits reserved specifically for Affiliated Organization Membership holders are:
An organization may hold only one Affiliated Organization Membership. The Key Contact, as listed in MemberClicks, shall be the representative of the Affiliated Organization Membership. The Key Contact determines who shall receive membership through the Affiliated Organization Membership (who will occupy the Affiliate Linked Memberships). If an individual holding an Affiliate Linked Membership leaves the organization, the individual will no longer be a member of the Consortium (unless they join as an individual or are linked to another Institutional or Affiliated Organization Membership). The individual’s Linked Membership will be available for the Key Contact to assign to another individual. If the Key Contact leaves the organization, they should transfer the duties of the Key Contact role to another organization Linked Member prior to departure. To transfer these duties, the Key Contact should email the Organizational Operations Collective ([email protected]) requesting the re-delegation of these duties, and should include the contact information of the new Key Contact. Any organization that is not an institution of post-secondary education may request to join the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals as an Affiliated Organization. The Executive Board and/or CAST may choose to deny or revoke membership if the institution does not fit the requirements for the membership or does not abide by the Consortium Community Commitments and Guidelines. The Executive Board and/or CAST may also revoke Affiliate Linked Memberships if the individual(s) holding the member(s) are found in violation of the Community Commitments and Guidelines. The Executive Board for the Consortium is the ultimate decision-maker around concerns of appropriate membership type, extension and revocation of membership, and responsibilities and rights of membership types.
