Subject :Lecturer, Department of Marketing and Director, Business Living Learning Communities
The Norm Brodsky College of Business of Rider University is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track appointment to start at or before September 2020.
The role involves (a) teaching three course sections in each the Fall and Spring semester, with the priority being CBA 110: Introduction to Business, (b) coordinating the administration of this gateway business course, and (c) directing the Living & Learning communities in the Norm Brodsky College of Business.
CBA 110: Introduction to Business is a first year course where students get a foundational understanding of the business environment and of business functions. An important component of the course is the Business in Action project, where students will work in groups to create a small business. They receive $500 start-up funds, and must design, market, and sell a product before the end of the semester; groups compete based on sales as well as the effectiveness of their business presentation to judges. The director will be responsible for working with University Advancement and Norm Brodsky College of Business leadership to raise funds for the groups’ start-up funding. He/she will oversee the groups’ budgeting and reporting, will schedule and oversee a ‘market day’, and will coordinate the judging of student group presentations.
The incumbent will teach in this program, and will coordinate efforts across the group of CBA 110 instructors in order to: secure guest speakers and judges for the student group competition; maintain consistency across instructors, assignments, syllabi; collect evidence of learning effectiveness; work with the department chairperson to ensure proper staffing of CBA 110 sessions.
The incumbent will also be able to teach other courses within the college that match his/her expertise and training. Subject areas may include marketing, business analytics, law and ethics, accounting, management, human resource management, entrepreneurial studies, sport management, finance, economics, healthcare management, actuarial sciences, supply chain management, and information systems. Student advising related to courses taught is an integral part of primary responsibilities of the lecturer appointment.
Finally, the incumbent will also oversee the Living & Learning Communities (LLCs) in the Norm Brodsky College of Business. In this program all freshman students in the college have the opportunity to experience block scheduling and housing arrangements with other students in the same/similar major program. The director of business LLCs will work with the appropriate offices on campus to coordinate block scheduling and housing arrangement. The director of business LLCs will also arrange for periodic community events (e.g., guest speakers, team-building sessions, etc.).
This is a full-time appointment, appointed on a one-year basis for the first three years and renewable for up to six years.
The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching and/or practical experience in the business field. He/she should possess a minimum of a Masters Degree (e.g., MBA), some experience in the realm of business management, fundraising, or higher education administration. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment supportive of the multicultural needs of Rider University and the surrounding community are required. The Rider University community is composed of faculty, staff and students from a wide range of culturally diverse backgrounds. Applicants should be experienced with, and committed to work in and with, such a diverse population.
